How do I connect an AI assistant?
WaxDepot has an MCP server, so an AI assistant can search the catalogue, read the live market, keep your watchlist and — if you let it — place, raise and cancel your bids and make offers on listings.
How you connect depends on the app. In the Claude app you don't need a key — you sign in. Keys are only for apps like Claude Code and Cursor.
Claude: the website or the desktop app
- In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors (claude.ai/customize/connectors).
- Click +, then Add custom connector.
- Name it WaxDepot and paste this as the server URL:
https://waxdepot.io/api/mcp
- Click through, leaving the sign-in settings as Claude fills them in, and finish with Add.
- A WaxDepot window opens — if it doesn't, click Connect next to WaxDepot. Sign in if asked, and choose whether Claude may bid. If you let it, set the most it may bid per box, and start low. Click Allow.
- In a chat, click + → Connectors and make sure WaxDepot is switched on.
That's it. The connection is listed under Account → Settings → AI assistants, where Disconnect ends it. Free Claude plans allow one custom connector.
ChatGPT and other apps that add a connector by URL and sign you in work the same way: give them the server address above and click Allow on the WaxDepot page.
Claude Code
- Go to Account → Settings → AI assistants (waxdepot.io/account/assistants) and find Make a personal key.
- Name the key after where you'll use it, like "Claude Code on my laptop".
- Choose Look only or Look and bid. For a bidding key, set Most it can bid per box — start low, since it limits the damage if the key ever leaks.
- Pick how long it lasts (30 days, 90 days or a year) and click Make key. Copy it straight away: it's shown once and never again.
- Click the Claude Code tab under the new key and copy the command — your key is already in it. Paste it into Terminal and press Enter. It looks like this:
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http waxdepot https://waxdepot.io/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer wdk_YOUR_KEY"
- Start a new Claude Code session and type
/mcp. WaxDepot should be listed as connected.
Cursor and other apps that take a key
Make a key the same way, then copy the snippet from the Cursor & others tab. It carries the server address and your key as a header. In Cursor it goes in ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Restart the app afterwards.
Check it worked
Ask something read-only first, like "what's the lowest ask on 2026 Bowman hobby box?" If it answers with real prices, you're connected. The AI assistants page shows when each connection and key was last used.
If it doesn't connect
- Claude says WaxDepot "isn't registered" or doesn't support the sign-in method: remove the connector in Claude and add it again. When Claude shows the sign-in settings, choose Register automatically under OAuth client.
- WaxDepot's tools don't show up in a Claude chat: click + → Connectors and switch WaxDepot on, then start a new chat.
- A key won't work: make sure it's the full
wdk_string, with nothing missing and no quotes or brackets around it, and that the command ends with a closing quote. - Terminal can't find Claude Code: if it says
command not found: claude, try~/.local/bin/claudeinstead. - Keys expire, and a revoked key stops working at once. Check it's still listed under Your personal keys.
